KAMAR Setup

KAMAR Setup

In order for Career Central to function correctly, we need to get data from your school management system.

Some schools use KAMAR for authenticating students, and others don’t.  These instructions will still apply to both types of setups, however, if you do not use KAMAR for authentication then we will need to do additional setup steps.

Part 1 – KAMAR Setup

Step 1:
Career Central Support will send you an authentication code.  Have this handy as you will need it later.

Step 2:
Login to KAMAR with administrative privileges.  Go to

Main Menu ⇒ Setup ⇒ KAMAR ⇒ Server ⇒ Directory Services

Step 3:
Create a ‘New’ Service and select the ‘Other’ option.

Step 4:
Create a ‘New’ Service and select the other option.

Step 5:
Fill out the fields:

Name: Career Central
Schools: Tick the school number your school uses (normally 1)
Address: careercentral-kamar.appspot.com
Use SSL: Tick
Data Format: XML
Username: Leave Blank
Authentication: Enter the code from Step 1 here.
Include Passwords: Tick this box.
Include NSN: Untick this box.
Enabled: Tick (do this last or you will get an error)

Step 6:
Press check to make sure the connection is working.   If successful, you can then press the ‘Update’ button to complete your first full sync of all staff / students to Career Central.

Note:  The update process is run on the server and may take a while to complete before you see anything happening.

Part 2 – KAMAR Web Setup

Step 1:
Login to KAMAR Web (i.e your parent portal web address) – for example:  http://parents.schoolname.nz/configure/index.php/login/

Step 2:
Click on Security Configuration.

Step 3:
In the Custom API Users section create a user called careercentral and set a password (please email this to Career Central Support).
